19 Duke Street

19 Duke Street, a 26-room boutique hotel in a Grade II-listed Georgian townhouse on the edge of Liverpool's Chinatown, opened in March 2026 after Liverpool-based operator Sefton Collection acquired and refurbished the former Lock and Key Hotel. The reopening is Sefton Collection's sixth Liverpool property, taking its total portfolio to 292 rooms.

The place

19 Duke Street occupies a Grade II-listed Georgian townhouse on Duke Street, on the edge of Liverpool's Chinatown, about 50 metres from the Liverpool ONE retail and leisure complex and within a 10-minute walk of the Royal Albert Dock, the Beatles Story and the M&S Bank Arena.

The concept

The building previously housed the Lock and Key Hotel, an award-winning boutique hotel that launched in 2019 and was put on the market in 2024 with a £24m guide price covering the wider portfolio. Liverpool-based independent operator Sefton Collection, led by chief executive Conor O'Donovan, acquired the property and reopened it in March 2026 under the new name 19 Duke Street after a refurbishment costing over £100,000, retaining the Georgian townhouse's period character while updating the 26 bedrooms with contemporary comforts. The reopening is Sefton Collection's sixth Liverpool property, taking its citywide portfolio to 292 bedrooms and making it, by its own account, the largest privately owned independent hotel group in the north of England.

Dining & wellness

Rooms come with Nespresso machines and premium toiletries; the hotel offers round-the-clock reception, concierge and room service, plus an on-site lounge bar and restaurant, Ninello's, serving lunch and dinner.
