The Fairmont Empress
A Chateauesque grand railway hotel built by Canadian Pacific Railway and designed by architect Francis Rattenbury, the Empress has anchored Victoria's Inner Harbour since 1908. It was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1981, and a $60-million restoration completed in 2017 preserved the building's steep gables and turrets for a new generation of guests.
