The place

1290 Boulevard of the Arts, in Sarasota's Rosemary District, the arts quarter just north of the downtown core. The hotel's restaurant looks out over the streets of downtown Sarasota.

Guests have had access to a custom vintage Volkswagen bus for trips within about three miles, and the current offer includes free private rides to local beaches.

The concept

The Sarasota Modern was designed in collaboration with Hoyt Architects of Sarasota, Boston architect Stephen Chung and architects from the Sarasota School of Architecture movement, as a tribute to the mid-century architecture of the Sarasota School, blending European inspiration with Gulf Coast climate considerations. Rooms are European in feel, with white walls, natural wood, floor-to-ceiling windows and private outdoor clawfoot tubs set among greenery. It has two pools, a fitness room with Peloton equipment and a yoga room overlooking the bay.

The hotel opened on 12 December 2018, according to Sarasota Magazine, ahead of a formal grand opening announced by Marriott in March 2019. It joined Marriott's Tribute Portfolio, the collection of independent-minded hotels.

In November 2025 Oliver Hospitality, the Nashville-based group behind a string of hotels and restaurants, added the property to its portfolio. It is the group's first hotel in Florida, announced as part of a plan to double its portfolio within two years. The Tribute Portfolio flag stays. Chris Delgado has been named general manager.

For events the hotel offers about 10,000 sq ft of meeting space, including The Studio, a 2,000 sq ft venue, a private dining room and a 6,000 sq ft pool deck.

Dining & wellness

The opening restaurant, Rudolph's, was named after the architect Paul Rudolph and served American cooking under chef Jennifer Salhoff. The on-site restaurant is now Wink Wink Food & Drink, an all-day restaurant and bar styled on 1950s and 1960s supper clubs and tropical tiki lounges, with menus built on local ingredients; a re-concepted version is due to debut in fall 2026. A pool bar, Wink Wink Pool Bar, serves the resort-style pool, which has a cold plunge, hot tub and cabanas.
