The place

18 Augusta Street, in Hamilton's Corktown neighbourhood, a few blocks from the downtown core and from St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton, on a strip known for its concentration of restaurants and pubs.

The concept

The Laundry Rooms is a small Ontario aparthotel brand that also operates in Waterloo, Kitchener and Cambridge, positioning itself between a traditional hotel and a furnished rental: in-suite laundry, full kitchens, 4K smart TVs, Nespresso machines and custom-built furniture made in southern Ontario, with stays ranging from a few nights to several months. The Hamilton property occupies a six-storey, roughly 50,000-square-foot building on Augusta Street developed by Core Urban Inc., with 40 units — close to half of them two-bedroom suites with bunk-bed configurations — above ground-floor commercial space. It is operated by Equal Parts Hospitality, whose co-founder Jason Cassis partnered with Laundry Design Works' Erin McCluskey and Paul McGrath on the interiors, which lean on clothespin-shaped lobby lighting, colour-coded floors and locally commissioned artwork.

Dining & wellness

Plank, a chef-driven restobar, occupies the ground floor and a rooftop patio, serving small plates alongside a beer, wine and bourbon list.
