The concept
Built in 1924 by Buffalo architects Esenwein and Johnson, Hotel Niagara was once among the city's finest lodging and banquet addresses. Its final operating chapter was as a budget-tier Travelodge, which closed in 2006; the building then sat vacant for roughly 19 years before this full repositioning to an upper-upscale, full-service hotel. USA Niagara Development Corporation, a New York state agency, is advancing the restoration with developer Brine Wells Development LLC. A first groundbreaking took place in 2019, but the project has slipped repeatedly since; a construction restart was planned for October 2025 with a 2027 opening target. Reported room counts vary between 150 and 160 across sources, and total project cost estimates have grown from roughly $42 million to a range of $49.8-58.8 million — both figures should be treated as approximate rather than final.
Dining & wellness
Plans call for a full-service, on-site restaurant focused on local foods and New York State wines, a lounge with a sidewalk patio, private meeting and dining rooms, a rooftop terrace lounge, a gift shop and exercise facilities. None of this has opened yet and no restaurant operator has been named.
