The place

229 East Parkway, in downtown Gatlinburg, within walking distance of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park entrance.

The concept

IHG's 175th Hotel Indigo globally, and a bet that Gatlinburg — a town built on motels and outlet-mall tourism — can support a design-led stay. SK Ballard Contract Interiors mixes 1920s-30s Art Deco with Appalachian references: black, gold and jewel tones, mountain motifs, and work from East Tennessee artists.

Dining & wellness

Altitude Restaurant and Rooftop Bar serves new American food and regional cocktails on what the hotel bills as the largest rooftop in downtown Gatlinburg, alongside a heated infinity pool with a swim-up bar and a ground-floor Starbucks.
