Halepuna Waikiki by Halekulani

Halepuna Waikiki by Halekulani occupies the building of the former Waikiki Parc Hotel, which Halekulani Corporation closed on October 1, 2018 for a $60 million renovation. The new hotel opened on October 25, 2019, on a quiet side street directly across from the Halekulani resort. Sources give 284 or 288 rooms and suites. Halekulani Corporation owns and runs it, and its parent company is Mitsui Fudosan.

The place

The hotel sits in Waikiki, on a side street opposite its sister property, the Halekulani, a short walk from the beach.

The Waikiki Parc had operated for about three decades before the closure.

The concept

Halepuna means house of welcoming waters. Opening rates ran from $350 to $1,100 a night.

The New York firm Champalimaud redesigned the interiors, with light fixtures made for the project and artwork chosen in partnership with the Honolulu Museum of Art. Teak finishes, vaulted ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows mark the lobby, which also holds a hospitality lounge opening on to a garden.

The pool deck, on the eighth floor, is the focal point: an infinity lap pool, a Jacuzzi, a poolside bar and cabanas with sea views. A fitness center completes the facilities.

Dining & wellness

The Halekulani Bakery & Restaurant serves three meals a day with an open kitchen and an outdoor terrace. The culinary concept was developed with a baker from the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo, and a separate chocolate kitchen makes the signature desserts and pastries. The menu is locally inspired.
