Crystalbrook Kingsley, 130 rooms at 282 King Street, opened in June 2021 and won Hotel of the Year in the conversion category at the Australasia-Pacific Hotel Design Awards.
Crystalbrook Kingsley opened in June 2021 at 282 King Street in Newcastle's CBD. It has 130 rooms and suites and is a conversion of an existing building, not a new build.
It carries two design honours: the Paul Davis Award for Australasia-Pacific Hotel of the Year, and Hotel of the Year (Conversion) at the Australasia-Pacific Hotel Design Awards.
The hotel is two minutes on foot from the harbourside and four minutes by car from Newcastle Beach. City Hall, the Civic Theatre, Newcastle Art Gallery and the War Memorial Cultural Centre are close by, and Darby Street's shops are a short trip away. Newcastle Airport is about 30 minutes away, and the Hunter Valley wine region is within reach.
The concept
Crystalbrook describes the building as an old soul reimagined, mixing historic character with contemporary finishes. Rooms look over the harbour in many cases, and the group says the furnishings are chosen for sustainability.
There is valet parking, plus meeting and event space for business guests. The hotel also runs a Winter Lodge concept, which the group has not described in detail.
Dining & wellness
Three venues operate on site. Roundhouse is a rooftop restaurant with harbour views and chef's tasting menus. Romberg's is a bar with cocktails and casual dining. Ms Mary is the third venue.
