I came with four friends for afternoon tea last Saturday and it was absolutely wonderful! I would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys a delicious and very beautiful tea. The portions were generous for tea and there were interesting teas to choose from. It was all very well done!
We had a lovely time and really enjoyed the whole tea experience, the beautiful atmosphere inside and out, as well as the excellent service we received from Felix. He was efficient, informative and very charming! He absolutely entertained us all. It was a lovely afternoon out.
We walked around a bit on the main level which has been beautifully renovated as well as the ramp/path. I really appreciate that there was a very good ramp for anyone older or mobility challenged. The building is beautiful and there are lovely antiques in keeping with the age of the house.
My only suggestion is better signage from the road — perhaps a sign warning the turn is coming shortly if possible?
My wife treated me to afternoon tea at O’Brien House on Father’s Day. This venue is gorgeous. It has a charming, tranquil atmosphere and is beautifully renovated! The staff were excellent. A special thank you to our waiter Félix who helped make our first visit to this “gem” that is tucked away in the Gatineau Hills such a wonderful experience.
The only challenge is there is very little parking on site. While were very lucky to get a spot, you may want to bring along a pair of comfortable walking shoes in case you don’t because if you don’t you will have an approximate 10-15 mins walk up a very steep hill from parking lot #11. While a walk from the parking lot to the venue might be ok if the weather is nice, this could be very challenging for seniors or people with mobility issues. A shuttle from parking lot #11 to the venue would be a great option!
Overall, we loved our visit to O’Brien House. We highly recommend that people visit, experience and support this amazing venue! We plan on going again in the fall so we can also enjoy the gorgeous fall colours.
We stayed 1 night for a girls weekend getaway. We were welcomed by friendly staff as soon as we walked through the door. Our room was clean and beautifully renovated. The scent in the hallways were a little strong from plug in fragrances but did not travel into our room. It was quiet during our stay but did not appear to be a very busy weekend. The air conditioning worked well and was nice to have. The bathrooms have heated flooring and its own thermostat. The room could have used a few more hooks to dry towels or hang clothes. The location is great. Walking distance to the beach and hiking trails including the ruins. Its location is only a short drive to downtown Chelsea for amazing dinner options. There is an in house resturant that served us breakfast and high tea that was so delicious. Would definitely return.
Beautiful building, friendly staff, great food, but clearly experiencing some growing pains. Several days ahead of time a staff member on the phone assured us that Adele’s would be open Sunday evening even though the website said it wasn’t. It wasn’t. We were told reception would be staffed until 9 pm. It wasn’t. Bell didn’t work on TV. Staff member kindly tried to fix, but could only set up Samsung channels. They didn’t really work either. Room had no tea bags. We asked restaurant manager if he could spare one or two for our room. He said the restaurant had run out too. (Yet, there were plenty of tea bags in the restaurant the next morning. Based on this, we look forward to booking future visits to O’Brien House, but probably wait another couple of years to let you get through some of these obvious growing pains, and recommend friends do the same.
I enjoyed my stay. Thank you for your hospitality. The room was lovely and very clean. I wish you well and hope it’s all going to work out for you! Some growing pains can surely be overcome. I experienced issues with bathroom lighting, found it impractical that breakfast was not served before 9 am and offered very limited selections, and was a bit annoyed that weekend brunch operations made hotel guests feel like an afterthought. The inexperienced staff will soon figure things out. I found it relaxing to be in nature and appreciated the various offerings of Chelsea. The drive into Ottawa is quick and easy.
