We had a wonderful stay at Pug Seal Oaxaca. They were able to accommodate an early check-in at 1:00 PM, and the 12:00 PM checkout made our departure so much more relaxed.
The location was perfect, we walked everywhere. All of the main shopping, restaurants, and attractions in the city center were within easy walking distance, so we never needed a taxi.
The breakfast was outstanding and honestly some of the best food we had during our time in Oaxaca. The staff was incredibly kind and welcoming throughout our stay. We stayed in the Hija room, which was spacious, spotless, and very comfortable.
The hotel itself is beautiful, with stunning artwork and a charming, intimate atmosphere. We also loved the speakeasy bar, it served some of the best mezcal cocktails we had all weekend. The complimentary water and tea stations throughout the hotel were another thoughtful touch that we really appreciated.
The only small downside was that although our room wasn’t designated as one of the “noisy” rooms, we could still hear the bass from a nearby club on Saturday night. It wasn’t enough to ruin our stay, but it’s worth mentioning for light sleepers.
Overall, we’d absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Oaxaca.
Aiyaiyai where do I start? First of all, Oaxaca is amazing. The food, the vibes, the streets, the architecture, the friendliness. But the most amazing part is staying at this hotel.
The building is a work of art. A marriage of old and new, of gorgeous colonial architecture with modern art that is part of the stucco.
Also the hospitality is downright unreasonable. In the best way. The welcome was superb. So kind, thoughtful, and with beverages (juices, water, cocktail.) There are thoughtful touches everywhere. I really cannot do it justice with words.
Also, some reviews complained about noise but that has not been an issue for us staying on the Agua and Padre rooms. The worst reviews seemed exaggerated (albeit maybe they was a special event then. We are here on a weekend and we can hear a bar playing music across the street but it’s fairly quiet from here.
We stayed at Pug Seal Oaxaca after enjoying their hotel in Mexico City, and I can tell the Oaxaca experience was even better.
The service is outstanding, the staff incredibly friendly and attentive, and their restaurant and local recommendations were invaluable, they led us to the best eating experiences around Oaxaca.
The vibe here feels warmer and more magical, of course, it’s Oaxaca 🤭. Highly recommend Pug Seal for anyone visiting Oaxaca! We loved it!!! We hope to be back soon!!! 👌
Pug Seal is very well located - everything is within walking distance. The hotel also feels extremely secure. Unlike many other properties in Oaxaca where you can walk straight in, here there’s a buzzer system and you have to be let in, which we appreciated.
Our room was very spacious and located on the quieter side of the hotel. The bathroom was large with a great shower and strong water pressure. The bed was very comfortable, and the air conditioning was strong - which makes a big difference.
They’re generous with amenities: cotton buds and other bathroom essentials, complimentary coffee and tea, fresh fruit, and a few snacks. There’s also an honor system in the communal areas where you can grab drinks or snacks and simply write down your room number.
The hotel has several communal workspaces, and it seems like even non-guests come by to have breakfast or work from there, which gives the place a lively but relaxed feel. Service was very good, with staff available 24/7.
We didn’t eat at the hotel, so we can’t comment on the food, but overall it was a very comfortable and convenient stay.
Although the location is great, the music from the clubs don’t stop till 4 am. The other great reviews for the hotel drowned out all the comments about the noise and we missed it. Not necessarily the hotels fault but they could do better for sound insulation/ white noise. They apparently have a breakfast service, but they never received our order before we had to leave for our day trip. We stayed at an Airbnb last time on the other side of town it was so much better.
