El concepto Hotel Sin Nombre ocupa una mansión colonial del siglo XVII sin uso hotelero previo, restaurada durante seis años por el promotor Elliott Coon junto con el arquitecto João Boto Caeiro, del estudio local RootStudio —el mismo despacho detrás de Otro Oaxaca, de Grupo Habita, a pocas calles de distancia—. La intervención conservó la escalera de piedra central, las bóvedas originales y los muros, repintados con técnicas locales a base de carbón, cal, tierra y arcilla, y sumó una piscina en la azotea con vistas al Templo de Santo Domingo de Guzmán. Nuestra opinión Hotel Sin Nombre no reconvierte un negocio hotelero anterior ni una marca reconocida: es una mansión privada del siglo XVII sin historia hotelera propia, restaurada durante seis años por su promotor antes de abrir con un nombre deliberadamente genérico. Esa apuesta por el anonimato —y por una estética de cal, piedra y textil local sin firma de diseño internacional— lo distingue de vecinos como Otro Oaxaca, con arquitectura de autor de Grupo Habita a pocas calles; aquí el protagonismo lo tiene el propio edificio colonial, no una marca. La discrepancia entre las 19 habitaciones que declara la web oficial y las 22 citadas en cobertura de prensa del momento de la apertura no está resuelta con una fuente única y definitiva.

What a charming hotel right next to the Zocalo. Highly recommend. Convenient to all locations you'd want to see in Old Town Oaxaca. Staff was so accommodating. Arranging taxis for transportation to sites, guide service to Monte Alban, mezcal tastings, etc. Walking distance to Michelin-starred restaurants Los Danzantes and Levadura de Olla. Breakfast was included in room charge -- menu was simple and food was well prepared. Service was impeccable. Hotel was charming in its interior design that reminded me of a Moroccan riad that I stayed in once. Small lap pool on rooftop with food and bar service provided was a big plus when returning from a full day walking the city on a hot day! Only downside (why I knocked one star off my rating) was some aspects of the room. Was spacious but needed a real closet to keep things tidy and drawer space. Also, our room was painted black (others were white) which made it challenging to navigate in the middle of the night when going to the bathroom! Bathroom was pretty spacious and had large bottles of bath soap, shampoo, conditioner and body lotion, which was great.
I would highly recommend Hotel Sin Nombre and I hope to be back soon! A beautiful dreamlike sanctuary in a great central location, with an emphasis on sustainability, artful and fun design details, and delicious vegetarian-friendly food on the rooftop terrace. The hotel is made even more magical by an exceptional team of staff who are remarkably kind and thoughtful. ¡ Muchísimas gracias a Xchel, a Sary, et a todo el personal de recepción !
We booked a family suite with two beds through Priceline six months in advance, and the hotel confirmed that our reservation was received. Despite this, when we arrived, we were placed in a standard queen room with one bed, which was completely inadequate.
For the five nights we stayed, this resulted in over $700 in overpayment compared to the room we were actually given. The front desk staff were extremely unhelpful and stated they would not refund the difference as we needed to go through Priceline for this/it was not their issue. We were also told that if we wanted a room more comparable in size to what we originally booked, we would need to pay the new, higher nightly rate despite us booking the family room six months ago.
The room itself was very small and dark, with a single window facing an interior alleyway, offering no natural light. The shower did not drain properly, causing water to back up while showering. Additionally, the room photos are misleading and make the spaces appear much larger than they are in reality. Friends of ours who stayed in street-facing rooms mentioned that it was extremely loud.
The only positives were the modern, well-done decor and the fact that the restaurant and bar staff, as well as the bellhop, were very nice. Unfortunately, the rooftop "pool" was disappointing and did not make up for the overall experience.
Between the refusal to honor our reservation, the significant overpayment, and the poor handling of the situation by the front desk, this stay was extremely frustrating. We would not stay here again and do not recommend this hotel to anyone. If you are looking to visit and enjoy beautiful Oaxaca, stay at the Quinta Real.
There are definitely positives about Hotel Sin Nombre, the location is great if you want to explore Oaxaca on foot (the hotel was able to give us a great recommendation for nearby overnight parking - the covered lot on JP Garcia - and the staff in general was helpful and kind. It was also beautifully designed, with some really nice touches (real keys to the door, beautiful courtyard area). "interesting" art.
Where the experience fell flat was with the room itself and potentially the food. We arrived late on a Wednesday night and ate at the rooftop restaurant. Nothing crazy, just two burgers and our welcome drinks. For the next 2 days, I was down and out with full on food poisoning. I don't want to say that was it since I don't know for sure, but we had no other meals, and were coming from Mexico City without any issues there so I can't figure out what else it could have been. We also did not receive our 20% off a one-time food order, as indicated by our booking site. We asked if the unlabeled water in the rooms/courtyard area was bottled/filtered, couldn't get a clear answer on that, so we just avoided it.
The room itself was odd and not featured in any of the photos. It had a platform on the bed with stairs and took up the entire room; just an awkward layout. Traveling with someone who has mobility issues, this was his nightmare. No windows. I was grateful there was an A/C, but that was about it in terms of electronic devices. No clock, no TV, no phone, no fridge, nothing. The room was just a platform bed and a bathroom. The bedding was also dirty, we had to request it to be changed out. The room was located near the housekeeping area, so we heard lots of noise, as well as street noise, especially the police whistles.
The hotel itself was beautiful and the staff kind, I just don't think I'd choose this hotel again if I ever return.
Amazing experience overall. The hotel itself was beautiful and right in the heart of the city, within walking distance to any amazing restaurant you could imagine and all of the great attractions in Oaxaca City. The room was truly fabulous and the service by the staff was second to none. Special shout out to Tony - guy was beyond helpful and provided some great advice for where to check out and where to go on my morning run. And a remarkably friendly guy too.
