The place
The hotel occupies Palmerston North's former central post office on The Square, a grand Edwardian building opened in 1906 that had sat empty and fire-damaged since the late 2010s before developer Safari Group bought and restored it.
The concept
A five-storey hotel built behind a retained heritage facade — the full frontage onto The Square and five original windows on Main Street are preserved — bringing Wyndham's design-forward TRYP brand to a provincial New Zealand city for the first time and turning a long-standing civic eyesore into the inner city's new hospitality anchor.
Dining & wellness
A 390m² restaurant from the Lone Star chain occupies the corner of The Square and Main Street with a direct connection into the hotel lobby; the hotel also includes a health spa, gym and conference facilities.
