It's a new-build addition to what was previously an underdeveloped block, built as part of a joint development push by ASU and the City of Tempe.
The concept Omni Tempe Hotel at ASU opened April 28, 2023 as a $125 million public-private partnership between Omni Hotels & Resorts, Arizona State University and the City of Tempe. The 330-room property (including 11 suites) was built to give downtown Tempe the conference-scale, full-service hotel it lacked, with nearly 36,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting space, including what the hotel describes as Tempe's largest ballroom. The design draws on Sonoran Desert textures paired with ASU's campus aesthetic.
Dining & wellness The hotel operates four dining and drinking outlets: Neighborhood Services (restaurant), Library Rules (lobby bar and coffee counter), Salt & Gila (pool bar), and Lucero Rooftop Bar.
Our take The scale and meeting space make this a conference and group hotel first, a leisure stay second: exactly the gap downtown Tempe was missing. Four in-house dining outlets mean a stay here doesn't require stepping onto Mill Avenue at all, for better or worse depending on what you're after.

My favorite hotel in the area. I always come here when I travel for work. The staff is super nice, it smells AMAZING, the cafe has the best muffins and other baked goods (if they have the m&m chocolate chip cookie then you must get it!) It’s right in the center of town, clean, pristine and the room service food/presentation are top-notch. I always get the burger and fries it’s delicious. Wedge salad is also yummy. It just makes me happy staying there always look forward to coming back!
The staff were friendly, polite, and professional. The hotel was clean and modern. The rooftop pool was perfection. The ice machines provide the best nugget ice. Everything about the hotel was perfect. 10/10
The location is off of University and Mill lacks space for parking so the only parking available is valet. At $18 a pop for parking I spent more on parking than the room.
Stayed for a week on a business trip in March. Great hotel with spacious, clean, and modern rooms that have everything you need for a comfortable stay. The rooftop restaurant/bar Lucero offers stunning views and a fantastic dining experience—definitely a must-visit. The pool area looked amazing, though I didn’t have time to check it out. Service throughout the hotel was exceptional, friendly, attentive, and professional.
Nearby perks: Within walking distance to restaurants, shopping, and ASU campus attractions. The hotel has great walkability and a welcoming atmosphere for business or leisure stays.
Tip: Valet parking is the way to go.
Our stay at the Omni Tempe Hotel at ASU was absolutely fantastic! My wife and I found the location to be perfect for exploring downtown Tempe, and our room was exceptionally clean, modern, and spacious. The absolute highlight of our trip was the rooftop pool and lounge area. It offers stunning views of the city and a wonderfully relaxing atmosphere. Every staff member we encountered was welcoming and attentive, making the experience even better. We highly recommend it and cannot wait to come back!
As my trip went on I started to understand that this place is not much more than a really pretty building in a great location and SOME great staff.
Courtney at Lucero needs fired. She is dismissive. She had us waiting twice for over 20 minutes to be sat while sitting and finding tables for others. The first day after waiting 20 minutes, she never brought us menus because she "got distracted" The 2nd day we came up and a couple in front of us asked if there were open spots at the bar and she was super nice and guided them there. When we asked about bar seating, we were told, "I mean you can try". So rude. Corrie absolutely saved our experience at Lucero and was an absolute GEM. Very personable and an asset to Lucero.
Neighborhood Services is beautiful and had amazing breakfast. The service not so amazing. The first day we had Sofia who was amazing. She made great conversation. the other days we were served by a lack luster young man with no energy or passion. Not what we expect at an Omni hotel.
I forget her name but the guest experience manager knew how to make our trip feel special. They went out of their way with chocolates, rose pedals, the whole 9 yards. Props to her and the team. Amazing.
Location is great, close to what you need to be close to. Especially when you need to go elsewhere due to a horrible hostess at Lucero. After our poor experience there, we decided to have dinner across the street at Filthy Animal. I am glad we did, this is a MUST!
I booked with AMEX which means free breakfast. Upon check out I noticed the first day I was actually charged breakfast. They were very nice and told me they would make the adjustment and email me confirming they did so. While I did see the charge reversed on my AMEX, no email came.
The pool- SO BORING. Minimal decor. Little misleading on the website it looks like its a rooftop pool, its not, 3rd floor. I went while it was slow in Tempe, so that's on me. But the pool was like a YMCA pool with all the kids. If you want an amazing rooftop pool experience in Tempe, go to Canopy across the street!
With some minor experience and staff refinements, Omni would be wonderful hotel. I do still recommend Omni Tempe!
