The place
A near-11,000-square-metre lakefront site next to Wai Ariki Hot Springs and Spa, on Rotorua's Lake Rotorua waterfront.
The concept
Landowner Pukeroa Lakefront Holdings Limited has released design concepts for a 197-room five-star hotel with a tikanga Māori-based design framework at its heart, following completed cultural assessments that prioritised cultural narrative, lake views and integration with the neighbouring Wai Ariki Hot Springs and Spa. PLHL is now seeking investor, developer and operator interest via an information memorandum; its chairman has said it is too early to know a construction timeframe, and the initial concepts are expected to keep evolving as partners come on board.
Dining & wellness
Planned ground-floor hospitality, function and conference rooms, a gym, a swimming pool and a rooftop bar. No restaurant or bar operator has been named.
