Moxy Hotels' UK debut opened in December 2016 by Aberdeen Airport: a 200-room, self-service lifestyle hotel built and owned by Vastint Hospitality and run by Norwegian operator Belvar.
Moxy Aberdeen Airport opened in December 2016 as Moxy Hotels' first UK property, built by developer Vastint Hospitality on the edge of Aberdeen International Airport in Dyce and run by Norwegian operator Belvar. The 200-room, self-service hotel is aimed at airport transit and North Sea energy-industry travellers rather than city tourism.
The essentials
Group
Marriott International (Moxy); owned by Vastint Hospitality, operated by Belvar
The hotel is on Argyll Way inside the Aberdeen International Airport site at Dyce, a walk from the terminal and about 20 minutes by car from Aberdeen city centre: built for transiting business travellers and North Sea energy-sector crews rather than city tourism.
The concept
Announced in December 2016, Moxy Aberdeen Airport was Moxy Hotels' first opening in the UK, developed and owned by Vastint Hospitality (the hotel-development arm linked to IKEA's founding family) and operated under franchise by Belvar, a Norwegian hotel management company. The brand's pitch is a stripped-back, design-led alternative to a conventional airport hotel: sound-reducing walls, 42-inch televisions, USB ports and floor-to-ceiling art in place of a full-service front desk and restaurant, with an opening rate quoted at £59 a night.
Nearly a decade on, the property remains positioned squarely at airport transit and North Sea offshore-industry traffic rather than leisure visitors, its 200 rooms, spanning standard to family configurations, built for a fast turnaround rather than a lingering stay.
Dining & wellness
Bar Moxy serves a complimentary arrival cocktail alongside a 24-hour self-service food-and-beverage counter with coffee, sandwiches, salads and evening dishes; the lobby doubles as a Living Room lounge with games, and a fitness centre includes Moxy's branded pink punching bag.
