Aloft Aberdeen TECA

Aloft Aberdeen TECA opened in August 2019 as Scotland's first Aloft hotel, built alongside P&J Live, the exhibition and conference venue anchoring the wider £333 million TECA development on Aberdeen's northern edge. RBH Management runs the 150-room, tech-forward property, whose fortunes track the events calendar of the venue next door.

The place

The hotel sits on Gough Burn Crescent on Aberdeen's northern edge, directly adjacent to P&J Live, the 15,000-capacity exhibition and conference venue that forms the centrepiece of The Event Complex Aberdeen (TECA): a wider regeneration project backed by Aberdeen City Council. The location trades city-centre charm for proximity to the events calendar next door, with Aberdeen Airport also a short drive away.

The concept

Aloft Aberdeen TECA opened the week of 9 August 2019, timed to the opening of P&J Live itself, as Scotland's first Aloft and only the brand's third UK location at the time. RBH Management, described as the UK's largest independent hotel management company, operates the 150-room property on behalf of its owners. The hotel leans on Aloft's standard formula (a tech-forward, urban-styled alternative to a conventional business hotel) with platform beds, 49-inch televisions with Chromecast, walk-in rainfall showers and pet-friendly rooms complete with a bed, bowl and treats.

On opening, the hotel's general manager pitched it as "the first design of its kind in the city, and Scotland," aimed at business and events travellers drawn to TECA rather than tourists visiting Aberdeen's historic core. The property's fortunes are tied closely to P&J Live's events calendar, giving it a more cyclical occupancy pattern than a typical city-centre hotel.

Dining & wellness

The WXYZ bar, Aloft's signature lobby bar concept, serves cocktails and food through the day and evening, alongside a Re:charge fitness room and Tactic meeting spaces for events tied to conferences at P&J Live next door.
