Lido House, Autograph Collection

Lido House, Autograph Collection opened in May 2018 on the Balboa Peninsula, on the cleared site of Newport Beach's former city hall. Its 130 rooms include five three-storey cottages with roof decks, and the property gave the town its first rooftop bar, Topside, alongside The Mayor's Table restaurant, in a Cape Cod-style building with interiors by EDG Design.

The place

3300 Newport Boulevard, on the Balboa Peninsula, on the site of the former Newport Beach city hall and a short walk from the shops and restaurants of Lido Marina Village and from Newport Harbor.

The concept

When Newport Beach moved its civic offices, the old city hall complex on the peninsula was cleared and replaced by this hotel, which opened in May 2018 as an Autograph Collection property. The architecture is Cape Cod rather than Southern Californian, with a nautical interior scheme by EDG Design, and the civic history of the site is used as the organising idea rather than being erased: the signature restaurant is called The Mayor's Table. The 130 keys include five free-standing three-storey cottages with their own roof decks, several executive suites and a presidential suite, which is an unusual mix for a hotel of this size and gives it more in common with a small resort than with a business hotel.

Dining & wellness

The Mayor's Table Pacific Pub & Kitchen is the signature restaurant, built around sustainable seafood and vegetable-forward cooking; Topside Roof Deck was the first rooftop bar in Newport Beach; and a coffee shop handles the morning trade. There is an outdoor pool with a hot tub, a fitness centre and a spa.
