Hotel Gotham Newcastle opened in November 2025 inside a Grade II-listed 1930s fire station on Pilgrim Street, billed as the North East of England's first five-star hotel. The 57-room property pairs Art Deco theatrics with the building's preserved civic details, including a bar set in the former engine room.

The place

The hotel occupies a Grade II-listed former fire and police station on Pilgrim Street in Newcastle city centre, one of the city's most visible civic buildings from the 1930s.

The concept

Gotham Hotels converts the 1931-33 fire and police station — originally designed by Cackett, Burns, Dick & Mackellar — into a 57-room hotel, with architect Ryder handling the shell and Squid.inc's interiors leaning into Art Deco theatricality while preserving artefacts from the building's civic past. A second phase due in 2026 will bring the adjoining former police station into the property.

Dining & wellness

Dining and drinking spans Siren restaurant, Fire — a bar built into the original engine room — and the members' club Club Brass across two floors.
