Hilton Garden Inn Townsville

Hilton Garden Inn Townsville was announced as a 190-room hotel beside the 25,000-seat Queensland Country Bank Stadium, the first Hilton-branded property in the city. It was to be managed by Hilton for HHNQ Pty Ltd, a company of the Focus Pacific group. The project did not go ahead. On 3 July 2024 Townsville City Council announced that the development arrangements with HHNQ had expired and that the hotel would no longer proceed.

The place

The site is next to the stadium, in the city's North Queensland Stadium precinct, within walking distance of shops, restaurants and cafes. The council owns the land and said it would look at alternative uses for the site and consult stakeholders as part of its precinct strategy.

The concept

The hotel was announced with a restaurant and bar, meeting rooms, a gym and a swimming pool. Modular construction was meant to cut build time and cost, according to Hilton's regional executive at the signing. The target at announcement was early 2026.

The brand had three hotels in Australasia and six more in development at the time of the signing. Townsville had been in talks for a Hilton since an exclusive memorandum with the council in 2017.

Dining & wellness

A restaurant and a bar were part of the announced plans, with no operator or concept named.
