Cambria Hotel New Haven University Area

Cambria Hotel New Haven University Area opened in September 2022 at 20 Dwight Street, the first Cambria in Connecticut. It has 130 rooms over six floors and is within walking distance of Yale. HighSide Development built it, with Baskervill as architect and interior designer.

The place

The hotel is at 20 Dwight Street in New Haven, within walking distance of Yale University and of the downtown green.

Union Station, the Amtrak and Metro-North stop, is a short drive or bus ride away.

The concept

HighSide Development built the hotel as a new six-story building with 130 rooms. Baskervill served as both architect and interior designer, and KBE Building Corporation was general contractor. It is the first Cambria Hotel in Connecticut. Choice Hotels reported its opening on 28 September 2022.

Cambria is Choice's upscale brand and positions itself on design and local art. The announcement mentions local artwork in the decor, design-forward fixtures and lighting, and bathrooms with Bluetooth mirrors. Indoor and outdoor spaces are laid out for work or relaxation, and a fitness center is on site. Meeting and event space is flexible, though no capacity or square footage was published.

Yale was founded in 1701 and occupies much of central New Haven, so the university sets the city's hotel calendar: commencement in May, move-in weeks in late summer and the Harvard-Yale football game, played at the Yale Bowl in alternate years, are the usual peaks in demand.
