We track one hotel in Peregian Beach: Essence Peregian Beach, an independent 32-room resort that opened on 29 June 2023 on the edge of Noosa National Park, about 13 kilometres south of Noosa Heads. It was reported at launch as the Sunshine Coast's first new resort in years, and remains the town's only tracked hotel: a quieter, less crowded alternative to Noosa's Hastings Street a short drive north.

What to do in Peregian Beach

Walk or cycle the coastal path for miles of golden sand (Peregian Beach's own stretch is patrolled during peak season and on weekends, with a skate park and playground right along the beachfront) or follow the southern tail of Noosa National Park, which connects Peregian to Noosa Heads through coastal heath and wildflowers. Climb nearby Emu Mountain (also called Mount Peregian) for a panoramic view over Noosa, with a chance of spotting a whale offshore in season, or head inland to Lake Weyba for horse riding, kite-boarding, canoeing and birdwatching. In the village itself, cafés and independent boutiques line the streets around the grassy village square, and on the first and third Sunday of each month, the open-air Peregian Beach Markets sell local arts, fashion and food.

Where to stay in Peregian Beach

The village, on the edge of Noosa National Park

Essence Peregian Beach, developed and operated by Scanlon Group, opened on 29 June 2023 on the edge of Noosa National Park. The 32-room resort, its wider estate also includes 20 separately branded beach houses, leans on local arts and culture rather than an imported resort template, commissioning its signature scents, uniforms and artworks from local creatives. At launch, general manager Damien Larkin called it a resort "set to make a huge mark on the Sunshine Coast tourism scene."

Which hotel for your trip

Couples & design-focused travellers seeking a quiet beach base

Essence Peregian Beach's boutique scale and locally commissioned design set it apart from the larger resort format found elsewhere on the Sunshine Coast, suiting travellers who want a smaller, design-led stay over a big-brand resort.

Travellers who want Noosa's national park without Noosa's crowds

Peregian Beach's position on the southern tail of Noosa National Park gives access to the same coastal walking trails as Noosa Heads, about 13 kilometres and a considerably quieter town away from Hastings Street.
