Coming soon in Barossa Valley

The Barossa Valley, about an hour north of Adelaide, is Australia's best-known wine region, built on generations of Shiraz-growing families and a dense cluster of cellar doors around towns like Tanunda, Nuriootpa and Angaston. This guide currently tracks one project: InterContinental Barossa Resort & Spa, announced in 2026 as the region's first luxury-branded hotel.

What to do in the Barossa Valley

A short visit

Cellar-door tastings are the region's main draw, from long-established names to newer boutique producers scattered across Tanunda, Nuriootpa and Angaston, and the Barossa Farmers Market brings the valley's produce together on Saturday mornings.

A longer stay

With more time, the Barossa Trail links the valley's towns for cyclists, and the neighbouring Eden Valley, at higher altitude, offers a cooler-climate counterpoint for wine touring beyond the Barossa floor itself.

Where to stay in the Barossa Valley

InterContinental Barossa Resort & Spa, targeting 2028, is planned across the Barossa countryside with vineyard views over its 150 rooms and a 130-seat signature restaurant. IHG's project received South Australian state planning approval in May 2026: the region's first luxury-branded hotel, filling a gap in a wine region better served by cellar-door tourism than by branded luxury accommodation.
