A former Red Lion Hotel in Bakersfield reopened independently in 2021 as Hourglass Hotel, then moved through Choice's Ascend Hotel Collection before landing, after a 2023 renovation, in Wyndham's Trademark Collection — its 175 rooms making it one of the larger recent conversions in California's Central Valley.
Rosedale, on the northwest edge of Bakersfield off Highway 99, a few minutes from Meadows Field Airport and California State University, Bakersfield — a stretch of the city better known for interstate-adjacent chain hotels than independent properties.
The concept
The building operated for years as a Red Lion Hotel before reopening under its own name in 2021, then moving through two soft-brand affiliations in quick succession: first Choice Hotels' Ascend Hotel Collection, then, following a 2023 renovation, Wyndham's Trademark Collection. The result is a boutique repositioning of a conventional interstate hotel rather than a ground-up project — a resort-style courtyard and pool stand in for the amenities a purpose-built boutique property would have from the start.
Dining & wellness
An outdoor pool with cabanas and a hot tub, a 24-hour fitness center, and a courtyard with lawn games anchor the property; food service runs to a made-to-order breakfast and check-in cookies rather than a standalone restaurant or bar.
