I had really high hopes for Aloft since it was branded under the Marriot name and the prices were charged that way too.
Some positives:
- friendly front desk staff upon arrival
- there's an extra cost but on site parking is available. There's also free parking opposite the hotel near the streets.
- clean rooms
- clean pool on the rooftop
But unfortunately the negatives outweighed here for me:
- no sound proofing in the rooms. We were constantly woken up by people talking outside our room at late night/ early morning
- although new, some of the basic facilities aren't functioning. Eg. only one working elevator with the other one out of order throughout our stay
- no soap provided in the bathroom (again something you'd expect from the Marriot brand). We asked room service and they gave it to us from the 2nd day of our stay.
- filthy sunbeds in the roof area and broken pool table in the lobby
- this is what really urged me to write the review: when we were checking in for our honeymoon we were offered a free desert on the rooftop. Which was really sweet and we really appreciated the gesture. We kept our bags, headed out and returned for a swim. The staff at the rooftop checked if we wanted anything and we informed them about the dessert and that we'd love to have it later in our stay. They said no problem. Day 3 of our stay after a meal out we headed back for the dessert to commemorate our trip and this is when the experience went downhill even more. The staff member (different from the previous one) had no information about the dessert add on, called front desk and then said it was only valid right after check in and was very blunt about it. We said we weren't informed that so clearly a miscommunication. Just put the whole gesture off - why offer something nice if you won't actually offer it or bother to be clear in communication about it.
Just not enough value for money to stay here.
The location was quite convenient as we were less than 10 minutes from most locations (ADO terminal, Parque del Jaguar, Chedraui, restaurants, etc.) The room we got was a suite and a jungle view, which was magnificent, it was quiet and well appointed, the only downside was the shower temperature was always lukewarm and the first day we arrived it was rainy and cold, but I imagine it's not an issue in hot / humid days. The balcony also gave it a nice touch, we had a nice marshalls speaker in the room which we could connect with bluetooth to listen to our own music, all in all it was modern, clean, nice room with a touch of design everywhere.
The breakfast was not on par with what we expected, there wasn't even espresso machine for coffee, the options were ok but not too many choices.
Keila from reception was super friendly and provided with a lot of tips on how to get to the hotel, around and about. Kudos to her making our stay more enjoyable! However, it's been almost a week and I haven't received my hotel invoice for some reason, I've called twice and was told it would arrive, but it never did.
The service was pretty good and staff was helpful overall. With the rooms being clean, a central location and an actually really good bar and restaurant with a beautiful view of the jungle, that is what saves this hotel. Otherwise, the elevators were broken and confusing the entire week, the thermostat in the room was very variable, a nasty sewer scent from the toilet, lukewarm warm shower water that leaked on the floor and very dim light in the bedroom. Housekeeping constantly removed all our towels and gave us one large towel - there are two people in the room, no floor towel or hand towels. The event space was chaotic. Lastly, they asked for $71 for an unknown service fee and they couldn’t explain. I am paying $75 per night for 4 nights and you want $71 as service? Luckily they took it off but it was supposed to be for the two daily cocktails (that people didn't get) and a daily voucher for food (they also did not get).
Photos on website are poor to give you an idea of what the hotel is. Group coordinator has poor communication.
Considering this place is centrally located and not as expensive as the hotel zone, I would return if needed but not relaxation.
Perfect spot in town, easy to get around on foot or by bike (which we rode to the beach!)
Rooftop bar was a nice touch along with a negative edge pool. Fajitas were really good too!
We took advantage of breakfast on site. Buffet options change slightly daily. Challiques seem to be in the daily and that’s a great thing!
We were disappointed to learn that the shuttle is no longer being offered. Pedal power to the rescue. Also, they do not have free coffee in the lobby (but you can get from restaurant starting at 7am if you have breakfast included).
Laundry machines work well.
Over all really liked the hotel, convenience and amenities offered for the price. Would stay again!
I regretted redeeming 70,000 points for two nights for this Marriott hotel. It ain’t Marriott standard and it feels more like comfort inn. Wi-Fi is unstable and can be as slow as 500k! We had to ask for additional towels every night. The bath gel bottle was empty and the fridge didn’t work so we also had to ask for the replacement. One afternoon the elevator also didn’t work. This place has a maintenance problem. The service is ok though. The room cleanliness is just ok as we found previous guest hair in the bathroom.
