The Loop is Chicago's downtown core — the elevated 'L' tracks that give the district its name loop around a grid of bank towers, the Art Institute of Chicago, the theater district and Millennium Park, with Lakeshore East's lakefront high-rises filling out the neighborhood's eastern edge between the Chicago River and Grant Park. Two hotels we track have opened here — Canopy by Hilton Chicago Central Loop in November 2021 and St. Regis Chicago in May 2023 — with a second Hoxton confirmed for a Lakeshore East site near Millennium Park, though still without a construction loan.
What to do in The Loop
For a weekend
Walk Millennium Park's Cloud Gate and the Art Institute of Chicago in the morning, then head down to the Riverwalk along the Chicago River — Canopy by Hilton Chicago Central Loop sits a block from Union Station on this stretch. In the evening, the Loop's theater district around State Street runs touring productions most nights.
For a longer stay
With more time, Willis Tower's Skydeck and the Chicago Architecture Center's river cruise are both within the Loop's boundaries, and St. Regis Chicago's Lakeshore East address puts Navy Pier and the lakefront trail within an easy walk. Streeterville and the Magnificent Mile are a short walk north across the river.
Where to stay in The Loop
Central Loop
Canopy by Hilton Chicago Central Loop opened in November 2021 at 226 W. Jackson Boulevard, inside the century-old former headquarters of the Chicago and North Western Railway, a block from Union Station — Hilton's first lifestyle-brand hotel in the city.
Lakeshore East
St. Regis Chicago opened in May 2023 at 401 East Upper Wacker Drive, occupying the lower eleven floors of Vista Tower, the 101-story Studio Gang-designed skyscraper at the confluence of the Chicago River and Lake Michigan — the brand's first Midwest property. The Hoxton, Lakeshore East, confirmed for a nearby site on Parcel O at 193 N. Columbus Drive, would be Ennismore's second Hoxton in the city, though the project still lacks a construction loan as of 2026.
