We had a mixed experience at the Upside Down Town Hotel in Zell am See. On the positive side, the hotel is nice, kept pretty clean, and the rooms are decent. The absolute highlight was the staff—they are incredibly friendly and always willing to help with a smile.
However, a few things held the stay back from being great:
1. Breakfast: It really isn't worth the extra cost. It was quite chaotic and messy. You can order fresh omelets, but the staff struggled with English and forgot our order. They also take a very long time to restock food when it runs out, so you're left waiting unless you arrive very early.
2. Noise & Temperature: The hotel is located right next to a church. The morning bells will wake you up multiple times. You can close the windows to block the sound, but since there is no AC, you're forced to choose between a hot room or loud morning bells.
3. Room Amenities & Parking: We were surprised to find no mini-fridge or safe in the room. Additionally, be prepared to pay an extra €18 per day for parking.
It’s a nice place with great people, but for the price, the missing room essentials and the chaotic breakfast experience need improvement.
We stayed in the hotel after a mountain hiking tour and the spa was the best place to relax and rest our worn muscles. The improved and extended spay area provides a great view at the mountains and let's you reflect on passed adventures or dream of the mountain, even if you can't hike yourself.
The room was stylish and functional, I appreciated the well thought-out style combined with traditional wood from the past. Appreciated the USB-C charger with fast charge. The food was great, I especially enjoyed the breakfast with all it's choices savory and sweet.
Good location in the heart of Zell. Great Sauna/ pool area. Nice decor. Good breakfast.
Customer service needs improvement. Front desk not always occupied. No luggage storage option - unless you are comfortable leaving it sit in random spots in the lobby/ hallway without supervision.
Hosting Beach parties for locals - even after midnight - does not benefit guests, seeking accommodations and peace and quiet. It benefits only the hotel and locals to create revenue. Most guests do not seek a CLUB/ Music experience when booking a hotel stay to sleep. EDM Music started at 4pm and was obnoxiously loud.
I had an amazing time at this hotel. Honestly, I think it’s the best in the area. The apartment-style rooms were comfortable, clean, and had great soundproofing. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, and the food was delicious with a variety that suits every taste. You can really feel the care and attention in every little detail. I would love to come back again!
I had a fabulous stay here. The hotel offered everything I needed and more. Firstly the staff were all exceptional, friendly and super helpful. The rooms were big, comfortable and modern. We had half board and the food was excellent. I enjoyed using the spa and swimming pool. We will definitely be going back.
