Palacio Solecio, presentado por la prensa especializada como el primer hotel boutique de lujo de Málaga, abrió sus puertas el 2 de diciembre de 2019 en el Palacio del Marqués de la Sonora, un edificio de 1789 en pleno centro histórico. El hotel forma hoy parte de Small Luxury Hotels of the World y se distribuye también a través de Hilton.

El edificio, construido en 1789 y conocido como el Palacio del Marqués de la Sonora, es una de las obras más relevantes de la arquitectura civil malagueña del siglo XVIII. Su reconversión, a cargo de la gestora Marugal, fue presentada por la prensa especializada como el primer hotel boutique de lujo de Málaga, varios años antes de que ME Málaga o Aurea Palacio de la Tinta llegaran a la ciudad.

The hotel’s location is excellent and very central, and the interior design is beautiful. The property itself makes a great first impression.
Unfortunately, our stay had several issues. Our first room was directly next to the service area, where staff conversations were clearly audible. After changing rooms, we were facing the restaurant, so we could hear plates and cutlery from early morning until late evening, as well as street noise. We ended up sleeping with earplugs. We also noticed that one of the electrical outlet covers came loose when unplugging a charger.
After accidentally spilling a drink on the bed, we asked housekeeping to replace the bed sheets. The bed was made, but the sheets were not changed.
We also requested a late check-out around 1 a.m. and were told we had to ask again at 9 a.m. This meant setting an alarm on the morning we had hoped to sleep in. In our experience, it would have been much more guest-friendly if such a simple request could have been confirmed the evening before.
One final point surprised us. We mentioned at check-out that we had been staying to celebrate a birthday, and we were told that the hotel generally does not acknowledge guests’ birthdays. Of course, no hotel is obliged to do so, but for a property positioning itself as a luxury boutique hotel, even a simple “Happy Birthday” would have been a thoughtful gesture.
Overall, the hotel has a lot of potential thanks to its excellent location and attractive design. However, we felt there is room for improvement when it comes to sound insulation, housekeeping and service consistency.
Dino aroundtheworld · 2/5 I recently stayed at Palacio Solecio Hotel Málaga while traveling alone with my two year old and although our stay started with an unexpected challenge, it ended up showing me just how caring and attentive the hotel team can be.
When I booked our room, I was given a room with stairs. Traveling with a very active two year old, this quickly became quite complicated. My daughter kept going up and down the stairs and I spent most of my time running after her and trying to keep her safe. At one point, she slipped on the stairs and I barely managed to catch her. It was honestly a terrifying and traumatic moment for me as a mother.
I immediately asked if we could change rooms but unfortunately, the hotel was completely full. Despite this, Nouria and her staff went above and beyond to help us. They did everything they could to find a solution, constantly checked on me and my toddler and made me feel genuinely cared for during what was a very stressful situation. Their kindness, patience and understanding meant so much to me.
As a mother traveling alone with a small child, that level of care and compassion makes a huge difference. I never felt like I was simply another guest, I felt that they genuinely cared about my well-being and my daughter's safety.
Beyond the wonderful staff, the hotel itself has a lot to offer. The breakfast was amazing, with plenty of delicious choices to start the day, the rooms are spacious and comfortable and the hotel is simply breathtaking !
Traveling alone with a toddler can be challenging and sometimes the little things like a kind word, someone checking in on you or simply making an effort to help , mean more than anything else.
For that reason, I would happily recommend Palacio Solecio Hotel Málaga, especially to families and parents traveling with young children. Thank you, Nouria and thank you to your wonderful team for taking such good care of us.
My wife and I had the privilege of staying here during our final leg of our trip and were extremely pleased with our stay. Everyone was friendly. The breakfast was amazing. The design of the property was elegant and in our room we absolutely loved.
The central life location provided us the walk ability we wanted to the beach and stay city center. We enjoyed hearing a little bit of noise later into the night understanding we are in the heart of Malaga, which we loved.
We will definitely stay here again.
Beautiful hotel design and helpful staff who assist with parking and luggage. Parking is in a public paid lot (around €28 per day), and going in and out increases the cost since the first hours are more expensive.
The breakfast team were friendly, thoughtful, and genuinely pleasant. Breakfast options were decent, à la carte options were nice as expected in a hotel of this category.
However, the hotel location in the old town is extremely noisy late into the night. People laughing loud and shouting until 2-3am.
The bed was only so‑so, and the towels looked old and worn. Cleanliness was the biggest concern: long blonde hair on the shower glass and on the conditioner bottle, giving the impression that the showers are not thoroughly cleaned between guests - a major shock for a hotel at this level.
Despite booking through AMEX, we received no upgrade, and no late check‑out. In fact, it’s the first time our late checkout request has been REJECTED when booking via AMEX FHR travel.
Overall, it’s a stylish hotel, but the basics and service consistency need improvement.
At around €500 per night, this falls well below the acceptable standard of service for a hotel in this category.
Room service note: the club sandwich and croquettes were good.
The room looked stunning at first, but unfortunately it wasn’t clean. The bedsheets and duvet were stained (likely from age), and there was a noticeable layer of dust throughout the room. The air conditioning barely cooled the room, making it uncomfortable to sleep, and the shower pressure was very weak. While the hotel is undeniably beautiful and has a spectacular lobby, the room itself didn’t feel luxurious. Complimentary bottled water is available, but only if you call reception before 7 p.m- not very luxurious. Overall, it’s a beautiful hotel, but not one I’d consider a true luxury property.
